FAQ'S
We have discontinued MKI lab coats as they have been phased out after the release of our MK II cotton-aramid (Nomex®) blend lab coats which are equipped with our Lumek™ indicator technology- a chemical exposure detection technology for enhanced safety.
Lumek™ technology integrates a visual chemical-exposure indicator directly into the fabric, allowing users to detect spills before they cause harm. Also, the indicator is reusable! Simply wash it in our buffer solution in DI water, and the neutral color and indicator technology will be replenished. In fact, because the dye that is chemically bound to the fabric, it is reusable to at least 30 wash cycles! The indicator changes color when it is protonated or deprotonated so that it notifies the wearer of caustic exposures before injury occurs.
Our protective lab coats are designed for both academic and industrial laboratories, as well as research facilities. They are useful anywhere hazardous chemicals may be encountered. They are not suitable for energetic labs or anywhere that static discharge may be considered a hazard.
The MKI Lumek™ coats are 100% cotton for basic chemical protection, while the MKII Lumek™ coats use a 50/50 cotton-aramid blend with fire and splash resistance for more hazardous environments. Our coats are designed specifically for use in academic chemistry labs, but have uses anywhere hazardous chemicals may be involved. Lumek™ coats are not suitable for applications where static discharge may be a hazard.
